2025 movies and shows
Wanted to share my thoughts about Wicked 2! I only watched the movie yesterday, so I probably will change my mind about some things I say here. But for now.. this is what I think! ^^
Wicked pt.2: For Good

TL;DR: a slight disappointment, though I enjoyed it!

No spoilers

I loved the movie, I enjoyed it a lot, but I also think it had its issues. It was quite rushed, and didn't really let us see the dynamics between the characters beyond the surface. The first one was longer and it showed us the daily interactions between the characters, which I really liked. This sequel is more event-focused, driven by actions that are very fast and pretty much never stop.
Some events also didn't make much sense to me, and some seemed to have happened just so they could connect to the original Oz world.
Locations, singing, and acting are all amazing. I particularly enjoyed Jonathan Bailey: he was great! So.. I liked it, but I wish they had spent more time on it. I also don't agree with a bunch of plot choices, but that's a personal thing!
I did enjoy the message about the danger of propaganda and the role of scapegoats in politics, which are very relevant topics. But I also think it's not perfectly handled either. More on that in the spoiler section.

Things I didn't enjoy/understand (with spoilers!!!)
  • I thought Elphaba's ability to read the grimmoire was unique and outstanding: how come her sister can do it just as easily?
  • Why doesn't Elphaba stop Nessa from casting that spell? She just says "yo Nessa, that's dangerous". Girl, go do something!
  • Why does Elphaba suddenly trust the Wizard again and dances with him? I thought it was clear that he wasn't to be trusted, but she starts dancing and laughing with him like nothing happened (only for it to end soon after)
  • Why did Fiyero refuse to go with Elphaba when they're caught by the guards??? He could have saved himself. But I guess he just HAD to become a scarecrow to connect to the original Oz movie.
  • Why is there a funny child-like fight between Glinda and Elphaba next to.. Nessa's dead body???? Elphaba just jumping and laughing, Glinda playing with her wand like a middle schooler. What is even going on? Why is the movie trying to make me laugh in this scenario?
  • Why does the Wizard accept to leave Oz so easily?
  • Why do Elphaba and Fiyero decide not to tell Glinda that they're alive? Is that what friends do? "Best friends"?
  • Why are Elphaba and Fiyero the only people that care about animals? Is Oz society that ignorant? It seems a bit unrealistic. It would have been nice to see at least another person on their side! It would have also been a nice message of the importance of community, which is not the movie's message at all (in fact, Elphaba and Fiyero literally just fake their death and leave on their own. A choice, a valid one at that! But a bit in contrast with the rest of the movie)
